Course Description

Everyone can learn something new in this basic class – whether you’ve only pieced quilt tops or have finished a whole stack of quilts. Prepping your quilt top properly, choosing and marking designs on your quilt, and selecting batting and backings will all be covered in this class. Threads, needles and tension and their relationship to finishing quilts will be discussed. Bring one of your finished quilt tops, if you like, to explore different design ideas for your quilt.

  • Quilt top prepping and picking your backing

  • Auditioning, resizing with Quilter’s Assistant Proportional Scale & applying quilt designs

  • The basics of batting & basting

  • Tackling threads, needles and tension

  • Stitch-in-the-ditch and meander quilting

Megan Best

Megan Best has always loved fabrics and made her first quilt while in high school. She continued to foster this love throughout her education, achieving degrees in apparel design and merchandising/textiles. Thousands of quilts later, she still loves to create. Megan’s career in the fabric industry includes experience in fabric stores, retail management, quilt shop ownership and as a professional longarm quilter. She excels in both computerized and free-motion quilting, winning many ribbons at local and national shows. She quilts on both her HQ Fusion® and HQ Avanté®, both with Pro-Stitcher®. Megan’s teaching career includes experience as a college instructor, a quilting teacher for local guilds and retail shops, and an instructor at national and international machine quilting shows.
